Assistant Manager Shaun Gale reflects on Monday's victory away at Wingate & Finchley.
'I thought it was a thoroughly professional performance by the lads, we took the lead early on, we were very strong in defence, admittedly it wasn't the prettiest game to watch but its all about winning and sometimes that means winning ugly. I thought that was one of our best performances, we defended well, played long when we had to play long, kept the ball well, a real gritty performance away from home. This season we have been in control in most games, Monday's match was no different with prolonged spells of possession and territory, although Ryan Young had to make a couple of good saves, our defence held strong, Lee Molyneaux came in and I thought he was outstanding, the lads have the bit between their teeth at the moment, we need to keep that going week in week out.
'Five wins from the last five matches, sitting 3rd in the league is superb, but the league is never won in August so we need to keep going, keep the lads feet on the ground, they are a great bunch of lads that want to learn, they work hard, they are showing that every week at the moment and long may it continue. We need to keep the run going, we need consistency and we need to keep winning football matches. We want to play fast and attractive football, that's not always possible, its all about grinding out wins, and that's what we did on Monday.
I asked Shaun to comment on the travelling HAWKS fans.
'The supporters are brilliant, I've been with the club 16 years now and i don't think I can remember our away support being so strong, obviously excluding the cup runs. I know this year there are some new grounds to visit and some of the away matches are nearer home, but for our fans to give up a day to travel and support the team is fantastic, it really does make a difference on the pitch.'
