Just 4 games remaining Havant and Waterlooville hold their future in their own hands knowing that 12 points will see them crowned champions, expectations were high at Westleigh Park and a decent crowd of 769 came to watch the HAWKS push on and take the 3 points against Tonbridge Angels.
The club extend a warm welcome to Harvey Bradbury as he makes his HAWKS debut on the bench.
Theo Lewis kicks off for the HAWKS, within the first minute Brian Stock receives a yellow card for a foul which seems to set the scene for the opening minutes as Wes Fogden is hacked down just outside the Tonbridge area, the resulting Brian Stock free kick is cleared. A feisty encounter to say the least with the referee having his work cut out. Rory Williams receives the ball on the edge of the area anf fires high and wide, on 19 minutes probably the best chance for the HAWKS, Wes Fogden plays a long deep ball right to the feet of James Hayter with only the keeper to beat he's ruled off side. 2 minutes later some great play between Jason Prior and James Hayter resulting in Hayter's effort rattling the cross bar. With the HAWKS gaining the upper hand in the game Tonbridge are getting frustrated, Jack Parter seems fortunate to stay on the pitch with a poor tackle on Dan Strugnell and collects a yellow card. The deadlock is broken in the 29th minute, the ball is crossed to the far post onto the head of Jason Prior, he heads across the area and the grateful Theo Lewis heads home again for a Havant and Waterlooville 1-0 lead. 2 minutes later the HAWKS concede a free kick 25 yards out on the left hand side which Nick Wheeler plays straight to Ryan Young. With just 10 minutes remaining the home side are looking for a second, Brian Stock is brought down his resulting free kick straight to the head of Ryan Woodford who forces Jon Henley into a full stretch super save. A minute later Brian Stock tries a cheeky curling effort which worries the Tonbridge keeper. The last minute of the first half, Rory Williams whips in a cross with Wes Fogden's diving header just missing the target. The final action of the first half see's James Hayter receive the ball from Dan Strugnell, he shoots on the turn and just misses the target.
Brian Stock is replaced with Mike Carter. Tonbridge commit another cynical foul on Wes Fogden, Rory Williams works the Tonbridge keeper from the free kick. 6 minutes in Theo Lewis attempts an over head effort which fires point blank into the brave Tonbridge defender. Another chance goes begging as Rory Williams fires a cross into Theo Lewis his effort skims the crossbar. Havant and Waterlooville have taken this match by the scruff of the neck, further frustrating Tonbridge. On 66 minutes hard working James Hayter is replaced by Alfie Rutherford. Tonbridge earn a free kick by the touchline, the ball comes in Ryan Young gathers. The HAWKS are playing confident football with precise one touch passing. Alfie Rutherford drives toward goal, plays to Jason Prior his shot just wide of the upright. Just 10 minutes remaining a deep ball from Ed Harris finds Wes Fogden who effort fly's high over the bar. A minute later and Wes Fogden is brought down on the edge of the area. 7 minutes from time again Jon Henley makes a great save from a fizzing Rory Williams free kick, the ball falls to Wes Fogden who blasts home from close range and double the HAWKS lead. 2 minutes later Tonbridge Keeper who had already earned a foul decides to retaliate against Alfie Rutherford pushing him over, the referee has no option other than to show Jon Henley a red card. Henley leaves the pitch and Tonbridge defender Ugo Udoji dons the keeper shirt for the final minutes. With 4 minutes of normal time remaining debutante Harvey Bradbury takes over from Wes Fogden. Things are starting to boil over the referee has his work cut out trying to keep both sets of players calm, there are 5 minutes added time, the HAWKS are happy to play keep ball and run the clock down.
