Ex Millwall, Wimbledon and Pompey man joins the Hawks
After winning the National League South Player of the Month award, Rory Williams spoke to us after yesterday’s game about the accolade and the 1-0 win over Oxford City.
Winning the award is a great feeling for Williams but says he’d trade any honour to win promotion at the end of the season. “It’s good (winning the award), the lads have wished me well but as I said to them there is only one trophy that we should be interested in and see what happens (in the promotion race).”
“I think I got it because we got three clean sheets in the Month. Obviously I play wing back so I’m one of five plus the goalie. Of course I’m happy but it is what it is.”
A focused Williams playing down his accolade but what was his thoughts on the sides performance against Oxford City. “We did bits and pieces, the pitch was dry and 3G isn’t really our thing but we got the win and the clean sheet.”
“But I looked at their results in the programme and they had beaten Chelmsford, Truro and Hemel 4-1. So a 1-0 win here cannot be underestimated even though they’re mid table.”
