From the Manager

Hawks boss Paul Doswell believes that the signing of Godfrey Poku shows signs of the clubs intent ahead of the new season.

After leaving Woking, the 30-year-old has agreed to a second spell at Westleigh Park after spending a short loan at the Hawks back in 2015.

Poku netted a hat-trick on his debut and went on to make 5 appearances. After spells at Oxford City, Wealdstone and Woking, he has returned as the Hawks first signing of the summer.

Doswell is happy to get this one over the line: “I think as our first summer signing, it’s a statement of intent. It’s a statement that says we know this league and we know what’s needed in this league.

“There will be two or three experienced players coming through the door, really excited about those signings. And there will be six or seven younger players coming as well and I’m equally excited to bring those boys in.”

Dos believes Poku possesses the credentials to become a fan favourite during his time here: “He’s a player I’ve known for many, many years. Player of the season at Wealdstone when he was there, Oxford City when he was there, and now Woking. There’s plenty of supporters out there that appreciate what Godfrey Poku can do.

“For me he’s a National League/National League South player and understands the muck and bullets of it. It’s okay having all of your violinists, but you need to have a few dirty people around it. He doesn’t mind that, he knows that’s his job.

“So there’s lots of good reasons to sign him, but mainly his character. He’s a really good person to have about the camp.”
