Havant and Waterlooville FC Proud to Sponsor Charity Golf Day for Hannah’s Holiday Home Appeal

Havant and Waterlooville FC were delighted to Sponsor Hannah’s Holiday Home Appeal’s Charity Golf Day at Crookhorn. The event which was kindly organised by Prad Bains (Mayor of Havant) who is a champion of the charity, hopes to raise over £2,500.

Hannah’s Holiday Home Appeal was founded in honour of 8 year old Hannah who was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease. Throughout Hannah’s brave fight, she was always full of fun and cheered up the other children on her hospital ward. During her illness she continued with family and friends to fund raise for the Piam Brown Ward, which is the Children’s Cancer Ward based at Southampton General Hospital, raising over £10,000 in just 3 years.

Sadly, Hannah passed away peacefully at her family home aged just 10. Her family decided what better way to honour her than by setting up a charity in her memory to continue her wonderful legacy.

Hannah’s Holiday Homes provide free precious, quality, family holidays for children with cancer and life limiting illnesses. They own three luxurious holiday homes, one in the New Forest one in Milford on Sea the other on Hayling Island. All are luxurious holiday homes and are on sites which have indoor and outdoor pools, on site entertainment for the whole family, arcades, shops, cafes/restaurants and lovely friendly staff.

Prior to the pandemic, the charity supported over 150 families with holiday breaks to their three holiday homes and so far this year more than 65 families are already booked. Throughout lockdown the charity have continued supporting families, pivoting to provide different services by joining forces with other local charities.

The work that Pam and her small team undertake is sadly in demand, from raising awareness of children’s cancer, supporting families and providing wonderful family holidays that create fun and loving lasting memories, is all delivered through fundraising appeals.

Today’s event saw 14 teams from local business taking part in groups of 4, with each course hole kindly sponsored by local enterprises. Havant and Waterlooville FC entered two teams comprising of the ‘Hawks Staff’, Gary Pratt, Richard Pope, Nathan and Alex and the ‘Hawks Players’, Joe Iaciofano George McLennan, Theo Widdrington and Scott Munro.

While it may be a very different type of playing field, the rivalry between our two teams was clear to see, plenty of pre-tee off tactics to gain a competitive edge and friendly banter throughout the day. The 10th hole marked the halfway point, where Pam and her team provided much needed sustenance for all the teams, teas, coffee, and bacon baps to reenergise the golfers.

Prad Bains said; “It’s been a fantastic day, the weather has been great. Everyone has enjoyed themselves and it’s brilliant to have raised money for such a worthy cause. Huge thanks to Pam and her team of helpers and to all the generosity of local businesses who supported the event.”

Charlotte Chandler, our Commercial and Marketing Manager said; “We were absolutely delighted to get involved and support the fantastic work of Hannah’s Holiday Home Appeal. This past year, while difficult for us all, has been exceptionally hard for children suffering with life-limiting illnesses such as cancer, not being able to spend time with friends and extended family or attend school through lockdown has been a heavy burden for them to bear. More so than ever these families need the support that Hannah’s Holiday Home can provide. We very much hope to continue to support the charity along with other great community based causes throughout the year”.

The winning team was from Portsmouth Water scoring 5 under par and with a tie for 2nd place with our Hawks Staff, Hawks Players and The Price Is Right all scoring 4 under par.

The day was enjoyed by all those who attended to help raise the all-important funds for the great support that Hannah’s Holiday Home Appeal provide to children with cancer and life-limiting illnesses.

We were deeply honoured to sponsor the event as we continue on our path to deliver community projects throughout the local area. Hannah’s Holiday Home Appeal will be back with us for a charity quiz night in The Westleigh later on in the year.
