The Hawks are delighted to announce that Danny Cowley’s Blues will visit the Draper Tools on July 10th as part of their pre-season campaign.

The annual friendly match didn’t take place last year because of the pandemic, so this year, it’s set up to be a brilliant occasion with both sets of fans able to watch the action inside the stadium.

Back in the summer of 2019 was the last time these two sides met, an eye-catching affair which gave supporters a glimpse of what was to come in the season ahead.

It was Portsmouth who came out 2-1 winners with goals from Gareth Evans and Brett Pitman. Roarie Deacon was on target for the Hawks as they gave a good account of themselves against League One opposition.

It’ll be a new look Portsmouth side when they visit this time around, with a shake-up taking place at the club this summer under new permanent manager Danny Cowley.

Whilst Hawks manager Paul Doswell has already bolstered his side with the signings of James Roberts, Joe Oastler, Alex Wall and Josh Passley ahead of the new season. Paul Doswell was delighted to confirm that Portsmouths first team were playing at The Draper Tools Stadium.

Doswell said; “It’s become part of the pre-season calendar for both clubs over the last fifteen years, and is always a very special occasion for this football club. I’ve spoken to Danny Cowley about the closeness of the two clubs and were looking to take the relationship even further. I honestly believe with the Cowley’s in charge very exciting times are ahead for the Portsmouth fans, and I’m sure there will be plenty of new faces for them to see on the 10th July.”

Our relationship off the pitch has grown with Portsmouth FC in recent years. A Pompey flexi ticket scheme has been set up for Portsmouth season ticket holders to get into the Draper Tools Community Stadium at a discounted price, to support the Hawks on league match days.

With several other pre-season friendlies set to be announced, the Hawks are preparing for another promotion charge to the National League.
