Havant and Waterlooville goalkeeper Ross Worner is pleased with the start to his Hawks career.

Worner joined the club in the off season from Sutton United linking back up with Paul Doswell.

The shot stopper has been in fine fettle between the sticks at Westleigh Park in pre-season, form which included a penalty save against his former club last Saturday.

As pre-season moves on he hopes the standards set are maintained or even heightened ahead of a hectic season ahead.

And Worner has loved his life at Westleigh Park so far.

He said: “It’s been really enjoyable.

“It’s been hot, the boys have been working hard but I’m really enjoying it so far this year.

“It’s good since the start of pre-season getting the lads together and I think Dos has bought a lot of good players in and experienced, good lads and I think we’ve all gelled so well.”

The Hawks have enjoyed a good start to pre-season having lost only one of their five games and that a narrow defeat to League 1 Portsmouth.

Standards have been set and Worner is determined that they are not dropped after setting a good precedent.

“The gaffer and Bairdy have drilled into us a winning mentality and try and win all our Pre-season friendlies.

“I think we’ve done well in them, we were unlucky to not come away with anything in the Portsmouth game because I felt we deserved more out of it.

“I thought that we did well against Sutton, and Tuesday Night although I didn’t play in it we did well against Winchester as well.

“The boys have been putting in good shifts and hopefully we will reap the rewards at the start of the season from working hard during pre-season.”

The positive pre-season although shouldn’t be taken too much into context is a great confidence boost for the players and the club ahead of our first season back in the sixth tier.

“It’s massive (good performance and results). We didn’t want to go into the season having not scored many goals and conceding loads.

“We’ve not conceded too many and and Jonah’s been on fire and I just hope that he takes it into the season.”
