From the Manager

Havant & Waterlooville boss Paul Doswell says he’s pleased with the performance of the Hawks but admits the long list of chances need to be converted as his side are held to a 0-0 draw at home to Chelmsford City.

It was a match that had Hawks fans on the edge of their seats and Clarets supporters looking at their watches as the home side fail to finish a load of chances that fell their way.

The point is not disastrous for The Hawks as they maintain their impressive unbeaten run in the National League South this season taking their tally for five games which is no mean feat in such a competitive level on non-league football.

“There was an interesting stat that a friend of mine gave me, that when you win six you never win the next game” was what Doswell started in his post-match interview: “Unfortunately that stat has come back to haunt us again, we created seven golden, clear cut opportunities in the game and that includes the penalty.

“Ultimately if you don’t take golden chances in this game it can come back and bite you but against a good, organised Chelmsford side, we knew what they were going to be about.

“Good players that have played at a good level, they set out their stool early to really flood the midfield and that’s a compliment to us. I think they set up to stop us and if you look at Ross Worner’s saves in the game I think you’ll find it was verging on nil.”

Doswell then continued by explaining what chances he felt should have been put away by the Hawks to give them all three points on the day: “If you look at our chances Jonah Ayunga in the first minute with a header from about two yards out.”

“We then get a penalty, which we miss; We get Alfie Rutherford who’s got to score for me, he hits the post from the angle; A brilliant ball from Andy Drury through the Wes Fogden a dink from Wes and that’s in, it was a good save from the keeper.

“Second half Jonah’s taken on five players, but he has got to finish from six to seven yards out, so the list was endless in terms of the amount of good chances we created.”

Doswell added his thoughts on the performance from the team as a whole to conclude his interview: “In terms of how we played, really happy that the unbeaten run continues because that is important and like I said if you look at next week if we can get a result at Tonbridge Angels then that would put on twelve points.”

“Credit to Chelmsford for how they set up we got a bit nervous in the final ten minutes that they could hit us on the break or get something from a set piece.”
