From the Manager

Havant & Waterlooville manager Paul Doswell says the squad are prepared for a vital clash at the top end of the National League South table.

The Hawks, who sit in fifth, welcome third place Slough Town to Westleigh Park on Saturday, a win for the hosts would see them climb the table into third spot.

“It was a disappointing defeat for us on Saturday at home, so its important that we bounce back quickly.

“It means something because they’re third and we’re fifth and if we get the win, we go above them and if we don’t then obviously Slough get a few points in front so, it is an important game.”

Doswell expressed his thoughts on playing under the lights at Westleigh after recording some big results at home when the games been played in the evening.

The gaffer also mentioned how the Westleigh Park crowd gets rocking when playing under the lights.

“It’s hard to put your finger on it, the atmosphere under the lights is certainly more buzzing. I thought it was very quiet here on Saturday.

“The crowd were waiting for us to give them something and we got the first goal, but it just felt very flat here on Saturday and that has not been the case at all on Wednesday evenings so far.

“Hopefully we can give the supporters something to cheer about on Wednesday night.”

The Hawks boss went on to say that tomorrow nights is a big chance for The Hawks to bounce back from a lacklustre defeat to St Albans on Saturday.

“It’s all about both boxes, all the clichés will be coming out but its true!”

“It is how you perform in one box and then the other and I have got to say, we done some real analysis over the weekend after the defeat.

“231 shots at goal it’s taken us across all the home games, it has taken us 12.5 shots to score one goal which is incredible it is a poor stat in that regard.

“I think we’ve lost 12 points at home since we’ve been in the lead so, we can pinpoint why this season at home has been a struggle.

“You can’t give up 12 points from winning positions and that is what we have done.”

Doswell concluded that the ideal end position for The Hawks might not be as high up the table as possible, due to their stellar away form this campaign.

“If we finish sixth or seventh then we will be playing away and I think anyone would say to you at the moment that they fancy Havant against anybody away from home.

“We beat Wealdstone 4-1 away from home, we’ve beaten Weymouth away from home so you look at that and think the stats would actually tell you opposite.

“But of course I want a packed Westleigh Park here, if we have got two home games here and it is packed out then I can guarantee you that our home form will be rectified and we can go an win those games.”
