From the Manager

Havant and Waterlooville Assistant Manager Ian Baird believes that the test which Winchester will provide will be important for his players ahead of the start of the new season.

Baird believes that the friendly at the Simply Health City Ground will be a perfect exercise for the players who didn’t get the full 90 minutes in our previous two friendlies.

And with competition high within the squad, good performances can see anyone grab a shirt on the opening day against Welling United.

As for tomorrow night’s game, Baird is looking forward to the test ahead.

He said: “From our point of view we will be playing all the players that haven’t been getting 90 minutes.

“It means that they can get minutes into their legs and we will be treating the game as a game that we want to win.

“Therefore they (Winchester) can expect a energetic, organised team trying to win.”

The Hawks Assistant boss is keen to ensure that the standards are kept high regardless of context.

“We’ve tried to create the mentality right from day one here that we train as we play and when we do play we try and win, but in the right way.”
