Havant and Waterlooville recorded their second win in as many games after beating Hampton and Richmond 2-1 at the Beveree Stadium.

The Hawks got off to a flyer when centre-half Manny Adebowale finished expertly from an acute angle mid-way through the first-half.

The visitors looked as though they would head into the break 1-0 to the good but Jorome Slew had other ideas. The forward cut inside following a throw-in down the left, before sending a low drive into the bottom corner to draw Hampton level.

A penalty miss from Slew on 78 minutes would give Havant the ascendancy heading into the latter stages, and they would take advantage. Alex Wall netted his first goal for the club sending the travelling fans behind the goal into raptures.

Match Action

The Hawks started the better of the two sides and had the first opportunity to score inside 10 minutes when Tommy Wright tested Alan Julian from distance. The Beavers’ goalkeeper did well to tip the ball over the crossbar.

Manny Adebowale opened the scoring mid-way through the first-half when he latched onto a second ball back into the box following a corner. The defender finished superbly across goal on the turn, leaving Julien no chance.

Jorome Slew equalised on 38 minutes after meeting a throw-in flick, the winger cut inside Jake McCarthy before firing an effort into the bottom corner, beating Worner at his near post.

Minutes into the second-half, Sam Cox whipped a delicious ball into the Havant box. No takers as far as Hampton were concerned as the ball drifted narrowly wide of goal.

Newton and Wright looked dangerous for the Hawks in the opening stages of the second period, both going close to scoring with shots across goal.

The game looked to be drifting to a conclusion, but with ten minutes left to play Hampton sprung into life following a Hawks error at the back. David Fisher latched onto the stray ball before going round Worner, only to be tripped by the goalkeeper. Oliver Mackey had no choice but to point to the spot.

Jorome Slew had the perfect opportunity to add to his day’s tally from 12 yards, but much to the relief of Worner, the forward blazed his effort miles over the crossbar.

It set up to be an enthralling finish and the match was won on the stroke of full-time. Substitute Alex Wall smashed home from six yards following Jake McCarthy’s headed rebound.

Paul Doswell’s side stood firm to claim the three points and send the travelling contingent home ecstatic.
