Jonah Ayunga fired The Hawks to a flying start to their preseason fixtures with a superbly taken brace against Alresford Town this afternoon to cap off a strong performance from the whole team.
It was a classic setting for a July fixture, the sun was out, the barbeque on, the beers in full flow and to make it even better The Hawks came out as convincing victors at Alrebury Park.
The game started well for The Hawks as they looked to take control of the game early on, stroking the ball around the pitch as the new signings got their first touches in the new and impressive Havant and Waterlooville away strip.
After returning back from training earlier in the week the result was exactly what new manager Paul Doswell wanted as his side kept control to see out an impressive afternoons football.
The Hawks continued to plug away throughout the first half as a goal was looking increasingly likely with the electric Roarie Deacon creating multiple chances from his position on the wing.
After 45 minutes, the hard work paid off for the visitors as striker Ayunga lost his marker and directed a superb pinpoint header past the Alresford keeper on the stroke of half time.
The second half started just like the first with both sides trying to create chances without success, however as the half went on The Hawks started to grow into the half more and more and a second goal was on the cards.
With just under 10 minutes remaining a perfectly waited ball was played into the box for Ayunga who with his head down thundered a terrific shot past the keeper to grab his second of the game and give The Hawks a two-goal lead.
Ayunga took the chance with great confidence as he almost took the net off with his hammer of a shot much to the delight of The Hawks faithful who made the short trip to the game.
The home side tried their best to get back onto the scoresheet for the remainder of the game but some very professional and organised defending from The Hawks kept them out until the final whistle. It was the perfect end a great afternoon of football as new squad earned the win in their first game of preseason away to Alresford Town.
It was the ideal outcome as the squad prepare for a big season in the National League South, and preparations continue as The Hawks will make the trip to Bognor Regis Town on Tuesday.
