Paul Doswell’s side made a number of changes, with Searle returning to the starting XI. Ross Worner makes his return to the bench, as Widdrington, Read, Bailey, Rendell and Chambers-Parillon are all handed starts in the Hampshire Senior Cup.
Both sides had an early chance but neither could hit the target as Smart and Roberts strike wide within 10 minutes.
The first goal came from the Spitfires as Whitehall places it past Searle with some luck off the post. Rendell nearly got an equaliser for the Hawks in the second half when a looping corner was headed towards goal but it was narrowly wide.
Wright danced around the keeper and squared the ball across the goal, but Roberts’ couldn’t tap it home.
Simpson doubled the Spitfires’ lead as a deflected tackle fell to the substitute and ended the Hawks’ cup journey.
The Spitfires had the first shot of the game as Smart cuts inside down the right and strikes wide of Searle’s goal moments before Roberts had a similar chance up the other end. Roberts was through on goal and shot low across Flitney but it was just wide.
Roberts swung in a looping cross on the right side but Rendell’s header was over the bar. The first goal game just after the half an hour mark, as Whitehall picks the ball up on the edge of the box, and strikes it past Searle – post and in.
Whitehall came close to doubling his tally but a great save from Searle denied the striker before half time.
HT – Eastleigh FC 1, Hawks 0
The first chance of the half came from Bailey whose long ranged effort was just wide of the goal. Hawks’ best chance yet came from a well delivered corner, Rendell’s header narrowly missed.
Substitutions were made as Wright, Baggie and McCarthy replaced Widdrington, Bailey and Chambers-Parillon.
A quiet twenty minutes was ended when Wright came close when he dribbled the ball past the keeper but his pass across goal wasn’t met by Roberts. Minutes later, Baggie’s cross was just in front of the group of Hawks players in the box but no one could tap it in.
Yang came close to finishing the Hawks in the 83rd minute as his strong attempt was wide of Searle’s goal.
Simpson did put the final nail in the coffin as a tackle on Smart in the box rebounded to the substitute who smashed the ball past Searle.
The Hawks crash out of the cup.
