Havant and Waterlooville fell to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of AFC Totton as pre-season came to a close

The Hawks final game of a gruelling pre-season schedule ended in defeat against AFC Totton at the Draper Tools Community Stadium.

The Hawks started the brighter of the two teams. Tommy Wright and Theo Widdrington both had their long-range efforts deflected wide of goal inside the opening 10 minutes.

Chances started to come for the visitors after 25 minutes, Sam Griffin went close with a curling effort from the left.

Paul Doswell’s side began to create opportunities of their own, but were unable to really test Lewis Noice in the Totton goal.

Widdrington thought he’d opened the scoring on 43 minutes when he struck a free-kick from the edge of the area. It had Noice scrambling but the ball swerved narrowly wide of the upright.

The deadlock was broken before the interval as Ethan Taylor latched onto an error at the back. The winger wriggled away from Worner before tucking the ball into an empty net.

The second half started how the first finished, good intensity with both teams seeing a lot of the ball.

Totton grabbed their second through the lively Taylor, doubling his tally for the day in the process. The winger stole possession and slotted the ball underneath substitute goalkeeper Charlie Searle and into the net.

The Hawks almost replied straight away through Jake McCarthy, but his header cannoned back off the crossbar following a corner.

Abdulai Baggie pulled one back for the hosts on 76 minutes when he tapped in from close range after Joe Newton swept in a dangerous cross from the left.

Craig Feeney went close to restoring the Stags’ two goal advantage when he went through on goal. Charlie Searle stood firm and denied his well struck shot.

Attention now turns to league matters as the Hawks host Welling United next weekend in the opening game of the National League South campaign.
