Paul Doswell names two changes, with Alex Wall returning for his first start since his injury, and Billy Clifford regains his place in the squad. They replace Scott Rendell and Oscar Gobern from our Boxing Day squad. The Hawks will be looking to rectify their loss at Dorking with a home win.
The best effort of the first half came when Clifford’s attempted cross was goal bound and King was forced to parry the ball away.
Wall almost put the Hawks ahead on his return but the volley didn’t have enough behind it. Mantom almost got Hemel’s goal but a great block from Newton stopped the visitors from going ahead.
A quiet second half, with the most notable chances coming from Mantom striking outside the box. Rendell nearly nodded the Hawks in front but it was knocked out for a corner. Hemel nearly took the lead in the dying embers but it was a clean sheet to end Hawks’ 2021.
A good start for the Hawks, Roberts had the first chance with a ranged effort that was caught by King. The closest chance in the first twenty minutes as Clifford’s wayward cross tested King who had to parry the ball away.
A free-kick at the other end of the pitch as Mantom tries to bend one round the wall but it was wide. Not long after, Clifford picked the ball up on the edge of the area and tried to bury it in the corner but it was just wide.
Wall came close to putting the Hawks in front when he was played in by a looping ball but not enough behind the volley meant it was claimed easily by King. Mantom smacked the ball goal bound just before the half time whistle but a heroic block by Newton stopped the side from scoring.
Benny Read replaced Paul Rooney just before the break following a knock. A goalless half means a big second half of action.
HT- Hawks 0, Hemel 0
A big chance for Hemel came 10 minutes into the second half, Cerulli did well to win the ball on the right side hand side who delivered a cross for Mantom but it was straight at Mannion.
Scott Rendell replaced Alex Wall.
Newton did well to keep the ball in possession, he slid the ball to Jake Andrews who tried to play a cute pass to Wright but didn’t get enough on it.
Andrews whipped in a good delivery from a 35 yard free-kick, Rendell almost got his head onto it but the ball was knocked away by Hemel for a corner. Leon Chambers-Parillon replaced James Roberts.
Aaron Simpson picked the ball up outside the box and tried to bend it into Mannion’s far corner but was claimed well.
The Tudors came close at the very end as Paul let fly but a great stop from Mannion denied the substitute.
A clean sheet to end Hawks’ 2021.
