About Match

The Hawks continued their unbeaten start to the campaign on home turf with a 2-1 win over Oxford City.

Oxford visited the Draper Tools Community Stadium off the back of an astonishing FA Cup victory over League One side Northampton and took the lead early on. Not for the first time this season, the home side turned things around. Goals either side of the break from Sam Magri and Tommy Wright ensured Paul Doswell’s side would come away with the three points.

The Hawks almost took the lead inside two minutes when Tommy Wright took aim from range. His effort looked destined for the top corner but the fingertips of Ben Dudzinski in the Oxford City goal managed to divert it behind for a corner.

It was Oxford City that went in front on ten minutes when James Roberts’ deflected cross found an unmarked Harvey Bradbury. The striker nodded the ball past a helpless Ross Worner in the Havant goal.

The home side almost drew level moments later when Craig Robson rose highest from a corner. But the defender’s powerful header was cleared off the line by fullback Aaron Drewe.

Wright had another go from range on half hour when the ball fell kindly to him 20 yards from goal. But the striker’s half volley flew inches over the crossbar.

The game started to open up as the away side were next to threaten. When the lively Roberts found himself in space on the edge of the Havant box, he moved the ball quickly from left to right before firing a curling effort just past the post.

The Hawks did draw level minutes before the break through defender Sam Magri who recorded his second goal in as many games. There was melee in the Oxford box and Magri stuck out a boot to stab the ball past Dudzinski.

The Hawks came out in the second-half and started brilliantly, the team pushed up the field from the get-go and it soon paid dividends. A combination of Joe Iaciofano and Tommy Wright won the ball high up the pitch. Iaciofano squared the ball to Wright who made no mistake to put them into the lead for the first time.

A quick counter from the hosts on 68 minutes almost brought them their two goal cushion. Substitute Lucas Sinclair ran the length of the pitch before picking up the ball down the left. The winger pulled the ball back to the incoming Bedsente Gomis, but it was just out of the reach of the midfielder who sent his effort, the wrong side of the post..

Havant looked to have doubled their lead moments later when Moussa Diarra got above his man following a Taylor corner. But the centre-half couldn’t find the target with his firm header.

After a second-half full of chances for the Hawks, they got the decisive goal and in the end that was enough to see them come away with the win.
