HAWKS 5 Concord Rangers 2

The Hawks move back into the National League play-off picture following an impressive 5-2 victory over Concord Rangers.

Jamie Collins bagged his first goals for the Hawks since his return in the summer, whilst Jake McCarthy, Tommy Wright and Alex Wall also got on the scoresheet.

Second-half goals from Temi Babalola and Ben Allen weren’t enough for the Beach Boys as they fell to their third league defeat of the season.

Match Action

The Hawks started the afternoon how they intended to carry on and their first chance led to the first goal just three minutes in. Jamie Collins rose highest to head home an Oscar Gobern corner.

Paul Doswell’s side continued their pressure on the Concord backline and so nearly doubled their advantage following a flurry of chances inside 20 minutes. First James Roberts went close and Tommy Wright couldn’t convert the rebound. Moments later, McCarthy found himself one on one with Myles Roberts. The goalkeeper saved well again with his feet to keep the score at 1-0.

James Roberts began to run riot and went close to extending his team’s lead on 25 minutes. The forward went down in the Concord area following a challenge but got up and tried his luck. Myles Roberts got down to his left to push the ball round the post.

The Hawks would grab their second goal just shy of the half hour mark when Jake McCarthy arrived late into the box following a ball in from the right. The midfielder’s powerful header left Roberts no chance.

Two became three soon after when Roberts got away down the left. The forward beat his man with ease before crossing for Tommy Wright to tap into the net from four yards out.

It would be four before half-time when Wyan Reid tripped McCarthy in the Concord box. Defender Jamie Collins would step up and convert the spot-kick to secure his brace.

The second-half didn’t start how manager Doswell would have wanted, as the visitors pulled one back in the opening stages. Substitute Temi Babalola found the net after good play to get into the area.

Wright thought he’d earnt his side another penalty on the hour mark but referee Aji Ajibola didn’t hesitate and waved play on.

The Beach Boys doubled their tally for the day on 75 minutes when Ben Allen found the net. Allen controlled the ball well before squirming his effort past Worner via a deflection from eight yards.

The Hosts would go on to restore their three goal advantage when they were awarded another penalty in second-half stoppage time. Wright was fouled during some last ditch defending from Joe Payne and substitute Alex Wall smashed the ball into the net from the spot.
