From the Manager

Following recent news stories circulating across social media and in the national press, this is how manager Paul Doswell believes the 2019/20 season should come to a conclusion:

“There’s time at the moment to be patient and make the right decision.

“My personal view is that you should finish this season whether that be in August, September or even October you should finish this season first.

“Then you restart the season and have a shortened season thereafter, or potentially play longer into May or June of next year to make up that time.

“It’s unusual times, and unusual situations need to be looked at, but for me it is very important that for relegation or for promotion  that we complete the season and in a sporting integrity perspective it’s best for everybody.

“If you look at our perspective we have just eight games to go and eight games can be completed in four weeks.

“We’re used to playing eight games in four weeks in August anyway.

“The reality is instead of finishing at the end of April (next season) and we finished at the end of May, it goes backwards a month.

“I’m convinced if we, for example, started the season in September, that players would want to play until the end of June to complete the following season.

“Every clubs played 80% of their season, the positions won’t change a great deal over this next eight games – the teams in the play-offs in the National South will virtually be the same seven, in terms of winning the league it’s coming down to Wealdstone, us and maybe Weymouth would can still win it.

“So it becomes a situation where it comes to points per game I personally think it’s a fair way to go, I think it rewards the teams that have done the best for 80% of the season and it’s going to be harsh for teams inside the relegation zone but in every part of life there are winners and losers and that’s the second most fairest way.

“The fairest way obviously is to finish the season, the second most is certainly points per game and the system I think is totally wrong is to null and void the season, which I believe is totally wrong.”
