Simon Walton joined Havant & Waterlooville as a player/coach in May 2019, from Maidstone United after spending one year with the club.
Walton came through the ranks of his hometown club Leeds United and broke into the first team in 2004, where he scored three times for the club over a two-year spell.
July 2006 saw Walton sign with Premier League outfit Charlton Athletic for a total fee of £1 million. He was on the search for some regular first team football so went out on loan to both Ipswich Town and Cardiff City.
Having never represented Charlton in a competitive game, Walton signed for Queen Park Rangers in July 2007. He suffered a horrific injury during a friendly against Fulham where he broke his leg, however Walton bounced back from his injury and in January 2008 he moved to Championship side Hull City in an attempt to bolster their push for a playoff spot.
After only spending one season with QPR, Walton went to sign a permanent deal with Plymouth Argyle in August 2008. His career at The Pilgrims didn’t get off to the best start as they suffered a 2-0 defeat away to Reading.
Walton was then sent on loan to Blackpool in the second half of his first season in March 2009, before returning to the club and being sent out again this time to Crewe Alexandra for the 2009/10 season. After finishing his season long loan move, Walton was sent out to Sheffield United however after suffering a long-term ligament injury on his debut for the blades he returned to The Pilgrims.
The 2011/12 season saw Walton captain the club as a result of caretaker manager Carl Fletcher taking charge at Home Park.
Walton was released from Plymouth in July 2012 for personal reasons as he was scooped up by Hartlepool United. He spent two years at Victoria Park making an impressive 73 appearances scoring four goals.
He then found his new home at Stevenage in June 2014 where played for one season featuring 29 times and scoring five goals.
In June 2015 Walton embarked on a new challenge and signed for Crawley Town on a two-year deal where he scored a total of four times over 37 games. However, he decided to leave the club midway through the season to join Garforth Town where he made half a dozen outings before leaving to join Guiseley AFC for the 2016/17 season. After one year at The Lions he joined Sutton United where he made 28 appearances scoring a total of 3 goals before moving onto Billericay Town.
Ricay loaned him out to Maidstone United where he eventually put pen to paper with for the 2018/19 season.
Walton signed with the Hawks in May 2019 in the hope of boosting the team back up to the National League.
During his youth Walton was represented his country playing for the Three Lions across three age groups from 2002 to 2005. He pulled on the nation’s shirt nine times over his career in the England set up.
