From the Manager

Hawks manager Paul Doswell wants to put Saturday home form behind him when Havant and Waterlooville take on Concord Rangers at Westleigh Park tomorrow (15:00).

The clash is a re-run of the 2018 National League South final day where the Hawks famously won the league due to a 89th minute goal by Jason Prior in a 3-2 win.

Fast forward to now the Hawks are 10 points off top, and will be looking to kick on in the league.

And Doswell believes that these wins are essential to be successful.

He said: “We won’t achieve our goals if we aren’t winning league matches at home, whether that be Wednesday or Saturday.

“I think we know performance wise except from last Saturday, which I wasn’t happy with, in the league performances have been very, very good.

“But what hasn’t come from the good performances is results, now what we want to do is both.

“That’s the football I want to play, I don’t want to hoof it or lump it to get a result.

“I want to see my good football come out with something but ultimately it’s down to your strikers and midfielders because you can’t create 22 chances and only take one of them.

“Wednesday night we had 15 chances and scored seven and that’s what we could have done to other teams here – won by fours or fives or sixes.”

The Hawks boss knows that things are going well even if the table isn’t an indicator of that at this stage.

“The thing is as a manager you go home scratching your head a little bit thinking you’re playing well, got a good group of players but you’re not getting the results.

“But that will change, it’s a long, long season.

“Your luck and all the others things that we talk about, by April you deserve to finish where you deserve to finish.

“I’m known that especially after Christmas that because of the fitness levels my teams really do push on well and that the harder you work, the luckier you get.”
