Hawks manager Paul Doswell commended the lads character and battling qualities after turning a 3-1 deficit into a 4-3 victory over Hampton and Richmond at the Beveree Stadium last night.

Two strikes from Jonah Ayunga, alongside a goal for Wes Fogden saw the Hawks turn the game in their favour.

The win is the first of the season, and will be a great confidence booster going into Saturday’s game away to Dartford.

Speaking after the game, Dos said: “We’ve had a real bad day at the office defensively, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out that.

“The three goals that we conceded were very poor and that’s taking nothing away from Hampton, who on the night again raised their levels and played really well.

“What I like about our players is that they stand up, accept their errors at half time, but then to concede a third straight after a lot of teams would have crumbled.

“But we had a golden 15/20 minute spell where Jonah Ayunga got on the end of a superb cross by Bradley Tarbuck.

“Wes then chases a lost cause really, keeps the ball in, fantastic pass into Jonah and it’s another good goal again.

“I really felt the substitutions made a huge impact as well. Tarbuck came on and gave us a real threat down that right hand side, I was really pleased with him.

“We made a few little adjustments, put Dukes into that holding role which allowed Wes to get into that Number 10 slot which is where his goal came from, which was superb and the quality of our goals was outstanding.

“I think they (the players) have dug themselves out of a hole being honest, but we got back down the A3 with the four points that I wanted from those first two games, lots to work on, we are nowhere near the finished product. We had a good pre-season but that counts for nothing but getting minutes into players’ legs.”
