From the Manager

Hawks manager Paul Doswell is “looking forward” to getting back into action tomorrow night when we make the trip to Hampton and Richmond in The National League South.

Doswell cannot wait to get back into a match so quick after the opening day draw against Welling United at Westleigh Park on Saturday.

Although initially deflated after the game, the Hawks boss after re-watching the game was pleased with what his side has produced.

And a test against Gary McCann’s Beavers side so soon after is just the tonic the gaffer wants after to try and get Saturday’s frustrations out of the way.

Commenting on the fixture he said: “I’m really looking forward to it. I thought we played excellent on Saturday without perhaps getting that deserved win.

“The boys have trained well this morning, worked on a few bits for tomorrow night and and we’re looking forward to going to Hampton and getting a positive result.”

Doswell is pleased that there is such a quick turnover in games, to start and build momentum within camp.

“Players prefer to play.” He said. “There’s a lot of games in August and September, but at the start of the season there’s no problems going Saturday/Tuesday.

“We’re looking forward to going up to Hampton, it’ll be a nice pitch at this time of the year and I know Gary McCann their manager very well, a really good manager and really good lad and I’m looking forward to seeing everyone up there.”

Doswell is expecting a good test against a young Hampton outfit who will certainly feel ready for the challenge despite a heavy opening day loss at Chelmsford City.

“They’ve technically got some good young players – a couple of players on loan from Championship clubs and retained three or four of their better players from last year.

“Gary and I are good friends and they are going to be as competitive as they can be with the budget that they have.

“But, at home they will be looking to win their games the same as every side in this league should be.”
