About Match

There were a few changes for JC as Baker, Faal and Oastler come into an injury-struck Hawks squad who looked to get their first points of the season.

MATCH ACTION

The Hawks had a solid start to the match, James Roberts tested the Clarets ‘keeper early with a half-volley.

Chelmsford started to grow into the match, Winfield saw a header hit the side netting which caused some premature cheers from fans.

The Clarets won a penalty after Winfield was nudged in the back by Deacon, but when Carruthers stepped up to take the lead, the legs of Worner denied him.

Ross Worner was called into action a few moments later when Franics won the ball off Baker and whipped in a vicious cross, it met Mills and the shotstopper got down quickly to deny the Clarets forward from point blank range.

The Hawks almost took the lead when Tom Blair’s looping cross headed towards the near post, it had Oluwayemi scrambling and was eventually swatted away.

And when the half looked all but done, Blair lifted the ball into the path of a running Faal who with his right boot lifts a shot over the ‘keeper and into the back of the net.

Ruff’s free-kick which flew over the bar was the final kick of the half.

The second half didn’t start with the same pace as the first, neither sides had a chance inside the opening 10 minutes.

It was the Clarets to have the first big chance in the second half. A clever corner routine saw Jones along the byline send a ball into Francis who was unmarked but flashed a volley wide of the mark – cheers from the Chelmsford fans once again as it looked as though it bulged the back of the net.

Brendan Willson was booked either for a challenge, or blocking a free-kick, received his second yellow and the Hawks were down to 10 men.

A moment after the red card, the free-kick was sent into the box and after an initial save from Worner, Bettamer smashed it home at the back post.

A brilliant moment for Max Connolly as he came on for his league debut after the red-card.

The Hawks saw out eight added minutes and gained a point on the road.
