About Match

It’s the season opener, and the Hawks take a trip to the seaside to face league new boys Weston-Super-Mare AFC.

MATCH ACTION

It was James Roberts to have the first strike of the match, but he blazed his effort over the bar.

Mannings had a moment of magic down the left-hand side inside the first 45 seconds, cut inside and squared it into an onrushing Jackson who tucked home the opener.

Weston-super-Mare were relentless and almost made it two when Humphries’ free-kick was deflected narrowly wide.

Berry was called into action to deny Jackson after a clever move with Reid. McCarthy tried his luck a moment later but his effort was wide.

Debutant Berry had a stellar first half in terms of stops, he denied Dodd from point blank range.

The Hawks held on and made it to the break.

HT – Weston 1, Hawks 0

It took 10 minutes for the first real chance of the half but it was much better from the Hawks. A curling Deacon free-kick pinged off the crossbar and had Lee scrambling, but the rebound was deflected wide from WIllson.

Blair hung a ball up for Roberts to latch onto, but his powerful header was fizzed wide.

Joe Oastler had a moment to forget and brought down Dodd for a penalty. Reid stepped up and his strike clashed off the bar! Dylan Berry scrambled back up and denied the rebound.

Weston-super-Mare looked set to make it two when Mannings sent in a beautiful early cross to Bastin, he brought it down and from six yards poked it wide.

The Hawks tried and tried to get themselves back into it but it was all too little too late.

Defeat on opening day.
