St Albans City vs Havant and Waterlooville, Tuesday 23rd January- 19:45

The Hawks will look to bounce back from their disappointing result against Weston-super-Mare when they travel to Clarence Park to take on promotion chasing St Albans City on Tuesday.

The Hawks 100% winning start to 2024 came to an end on Saturday when they lost 2-1 to Weston-super-Mare. Ruben Reid opened the scoring for the visitors, but The Hawks fought back and Roberts found a leveller in the second half. The Hawks controlled the game after this and looked likely to score a winner, but Lloyd Humphries’ long ranged effort from a counter attack found the back of the net, making the final score 2-1.

St Albans last game was a 2-1 win over relegation-threatened Eastbourne Borough on Saturday 13th January with Weather related Postponements plaguing their games since. Goals from Mitchell Weiss and Dominic Hutchinson secured the three points for the Saints, who will be hoping for a win to move them into the play-off places.

A win could bring the Hawks level on points with 21st placed Eastbourne Borough. The team will also be aware that if fellow strugglers Dover Athletic are able to beat Tonbridge, then the Hawks could find themselves bottom of the table.

Ones to watch:

Hawks fans should keep an eye out for forward Shaun Jeffers. The veteran striker is in fine form, scoring 4 goals in 4 games. He has played for teams such as Coventry, Peterborough, Newport County, Yeovil and Boreham Wood.

Another player worth keeping an eye out for is Dominic Hutchinson. The 22-year-old is on loan from National League side Wealdstone, and he boasts three assists and a goal since signing for the Saints in December.

Team news:

Jake McCarthy remains unavailable as he continues his injury rehabilitation. The skipper said during a club interview that: “I’m feeling strong and hoping to be back soon. I’m doing my separate rehab in the gym and doing everything I can to get back out there and help the team out.”
