Havant and Waterlooville Football Club can now announce that Matthew Barnes-Homer has joined as Steve King’s Assistant Manager.

Barnes-Homer, 37, boasts a wealth of footballing experience having played across 3 decades for a range of clubs in England as well as overseas. Matthew started his career as a youngster with Wolverhampton Wanderers and has had spells with the likes of Luton Town, Cambridge United and Macclesfield Town.

His first of two moves abroad saw him play for Swedish side Östersund FK in March 2012. Barnes-Homer played 11 scoring 2 during his time in Östersund as ÖFK went on to win the then named ‘Division 1 Norra’ on the final day of the season beting BK Forward to the title on goal difference. Matthew’s return to England saw him join Macclesfield where he racked up 21 goals in 42 games in the then named ‘Conference Premier’ which included 3 goals in 5 games in the FA Cup as The Silkmen made it to the 4th Round.

Last Season, Barnes-Homer linked up with Steve King at Gloucester City where he worked as Assistant Manager in the side that saw The Tigers reach the Play-Offs in the National League North. In the Summer of 2023, Matthew made the switch to former club Brackley Town in a coaching role but has now linked back up with Steve King in the Assistant Manager role for the Hawks.

We welcome Matthew to the Club and look forward to seeing him working with Steve King going forward in his new role.
