From the Manager

Paul Doswell wants his Hawks side to be more ruthless with the opportunities which they create after drawing a second consecutive home game 0-0.

Although creating chances wasn’t a problem for his side in yesterday’s stalemate against Eastbourne Borough at Westleigh Park, its the conversion side which the gaffer wants to see.

However, Dos did concede that two games in three days in warm conditions did also play a part in proceedings.

He said: “It was a tough game. We’ve played two games in 90 degrees heat.

“We’ll look back on it and say that we’ve missed another penalty at home. I don’t think it was a penalty in fact I know it wasn’t a penalty, so that was gifted to us in the 44th minute.

“If you go on and score that it gives us a big lift before half time and would obviously deflate them. We always felt if we could get one goal then maybe there would be the opportunity to get two or three because in previous games they’ve (Eastbourne) have worked their socks off until conceded.

“You have to praise them. The amount of blocks, especially in the second half, that they got in on clear chances for us.

“The last minute summed it up for me. Roarie Deacon got up for the header and the lad has somehow blocked it with his knee.

“We take the point. Sometimes in football you don’t get what you deserve, but that’s becoming a habit I think. The Welling, Chelmsford and Eastbourne games teams have come to sit in to also hit us on the break.

“They (Eastbourne) were quite brave with Luer, Romain and Nicky Wheeler so they had some pace in that front three as well.

“I thought it was a good enough game to watch, it wasn’t a boring 0-0. Romain hit one from 25 yards out and that was their only effort that I can remember on goal and we’ve had five good chances.

“I thought with Benny’s if he doesn’t shoot then he has to square it with two lads on the goal line. Wes’ is a great save from the keeper, then we miss the penalty and the second half it was a non stop barrage.

“But credit to Eastbourne. We knew they would come with that type of game plan and all their players put in a shift and you can’t fault that.”
