This weekend the Hawks take a trip to 20th placed Welling United in a bid to extend their foothold in the playoffs.

Monday’s 3-0 victory over Eastbourne meant Havant & Waterlooville found themselves 7th in the league, three points ahead of 8th placed Chippenham. The pressure certainly is on for Paul Doswell’s men now the playoffs lie solely in their hands. A chaotic game of football unfolded on Monday, Eastbourne had three sending offs and were left with just eight men on the pitch with 20 minutes to go. The Hawks capitalised when a wonder volley from Jake McCarthy almost broke the net. The floodgates opened and a brace from Duku meant the game finished 3-0.

Welling are currently fighting for survival – a head to head battle against Billericay may well go until the final day to decide who avoids the drop. The bank holiday weekend wasn’t too bad for the wings – they clawed themselves a point after completing a successful comeback against Eastbourne. Welling overturned a three goal deficit and the points were shared. Easter Monday was not as kind, with second place Dorking winning 4-0 in The Wings’ own backyard.

You would have to turn your attention back to the first game of the season to see when the two sides last met,  Welling visited the Draper Tools Community Stadium and went home empty handed. Goals from Roberts, Rendell and Clifford sealed the fate of the Wings in an emphatic 3-0 victory for the Hawks.
