Havant & Waterlooville will make their first away trip of the season on Tuesday night as they head into the capital to face Hampton & Richmond Borough at The Jezzards Beveree Stadium.

The Hawks will hope they can claim all three points in this fixture after a frustrating game at Westleigh Park on Saturday against a stubborn Welling United side meant they had to settle for a point.

It was a great attacking display from The Hawks in the opening game of the season, but they couldn’t find the back of the net in the second half to add to Roarie Deacon’s first half strike. Paul Doswell will be hoping his side will show the same threat on Tuesday evening, but this time see his side take the win.

The hosts will be hoping they can get some points on the board for their first game at home this season. The Beavers travelled to Chelmsford City on the opening day of the campaign and endured a tough defeat as the home side took all three points in a convincing 4-1 victory.

Despite not getting off to the best start on Saturday, The Beavers will be tough test for The Hawks as their young squad will be eager to put things right on Tuesday and build on their 15th National League South finish last season.

Our man to watch on Tuesday evening will be the forever reliable Nicky Bailey who controlled the game against The Wings on Saturday. The 35-year-old midfielder claimed the official Man of The Match award for his solid performance in the centre of the park and Hawks fans will hope he continues his season in the same fashion.

Paul Doswell, who took charge of his first competitive game with the club on Saturday, was impressed by the way his team played but was frustrated not to take all the points: “I’m disappointed not to win, I don’t think they got in out our half in the second half until the last two minutes of injury time.

“We had enough chances to win and in football you’ve got to take those chances but it’s a point on the board obviously we would have liked three but some of the football we played in the second half was very, very good.”

When speaking on our upcoming test away from home Doswell said he’s relishing the chance to put things right: “We are really looking forward to it, I think we played excellent on Saturday without getting that perhaps deserved win.

“The boys have trained well yesterday and worked on a few bits for tonight and we are looking forward to going to Hampton and getting a positive result.”
